To motherfuck, certainly not
literal or is that what Freud meant
when he spoke of phallus, of psycho
sexual stand-ins. The offense in its
saying but what of its origin? Slung
in films and fights while the Greek poets
called it first, named him Oedipus.
Foretold his vile act and yet, the mother
is fucked, humiliated, scorned. O woe
is thee, poor wretch! Now it passes our lips
with perceived power, you sexy motherfucka,
with no thought of Jocasta’s feet, how delicate
they were, just grazing the floor
from where she hanged.

Lisa Mecham writes a little bit of everything and her work has appeared in Catapult, Day One, and BOAAT, among other publications. A Midwesterner at heart, Lisa lives in Los Angeles with her two daughters where she’s finishing a book about mental illness in the suburbs.
