Mom, when I called

the police
          for your ever
-black eye, I did so
          knowing at least
40% of cops
          have made crime scenes
and cover-ups
          of the bodies
that share their beds.
          That’s like asking
the fire department
          to save your home
when three out of five
          hoses spray water &
the others punish flames
          with gasoline.
Mom,
          are you still burning?
